Dr. Boswell’s successful Southwest Virginia orthodontics practice has been built on a strong foundation of training, discipline and integrity.

Dr. Boswell received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in 1973. Shortly after graduation, he entered the United States Army and, for the next five years, served his country in Korea and the Netherlands. In 1978, the Army selected Dr. Boswell for a two-year advanced training program in orthodontics, taking him once again to the Medical College of Virginia. In 1980, he became a specialist in orthodontics. He spent the next four years of his military career in Augsburg, Germany, where he earned several military badges and became a member of the National Ski Patrol, which he continued at Beech Mountain in North Carolina until retiring in 2002.

Dr. Boswell’s initial active duty ended in 1985 after a one-year assignment in Augusta, Georgia. He accepted a commission in the United States Army Reserves and moved to Abingdon to open his practice in orthodontics. He was called to active duty during Operation Desert Storm, serving in Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait with the 912th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) from Johnson City, Tennessee. He retired as a Colonel in 1995 after 22 years of military service.

In 1992, the American Board of Orthodontics certified Dr. Boswell as a Diplomate of their board. He served on the Board of Directors of the Medical College of Virginia Foundation for Education and Research and is currently a member of the Southwest Virginia Dental Society, Virginia Dental Association, American Dental Association, Pierre Fauchard Academy, Medical College of Virginia Orthodontic Foundation, Virginia Association of Orthodontists, Southern Association of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists and the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics.
